RARE CASK SOCIETY X DAVID BROMLEY

Whisky Art Project III

“Whisky is such a tactile possession – from the pour into the glass, the colour, the aroma and warmth it cultivates – you take it in with your eyes, your nose, your mouth; your complete senses. This piece incorporates the elements of the face – the foundational component of an artist’s practice – in a sensual way,” – David Bromley.

Our 3rd Edition has been personally crafted in collaboration with celebrated Australian artist David Bromley, and Head Distiller/Owner David Kernke, at Shene Estate & Distillery, Tasmania.

You will enjoy a robust triple-distilled single malt, drawn from hand-selected 20 litre ex-port casks, at a natural cask-strength ABV of 64.9%.

The Whisky:

The artwork for the whisky bottle label has been painted by prominent Australian artist, David Bromley. Only 157 of the limited-edition art bottles are available with each bottle lovingly labelled and numbered by hand.

Collectors of this edition will also be extended an invitation to attend a ‘Behind the Scenes’ distillery tour and tasting in Tasmania, hosted by collaboration partner Shene Estate & Distillery, at the historic Shene Estate. This includes experiencing the climate, learning about the distilling and maturation process, and tasting whiskies from similar casks and bondstores where your Rare Cask Society bottling was procured.

Tasting notes:

Colour: Pure golden Canadian maple syrup.

Nose:  Salted caramel, Dalemain marmalade and cinnamon sticks

Palate:  Bold upfront lashings of warm sticky date pudding, candied pecans and seared figs drizzled in honey. Luscious silky mouthfeel, with a wave of warmth and a hint of crispy bacon.

Finish: A long, lingering, warm finish. Perfect indulgence by the fireplace on a cold winter’s night.

“Labels in contemporary life have become, like many things today, more digitally designed which betrays the very sense of how whisky is created. Like artwork, it should be nurtured into existence, so it was natural to paint the label for a crafted product that is made with great insight and intelligence,”

– David Bromley.

About the Artist:

Born in 1960 in Sheffield, England, David Bromley immigrated to Australia with his family in 1964 and emerged as a painter in the mid-1980s. Since then, he has become one of the most recognisable and innovative artists in Australia. Over the past 20 years David’s work has fostered widespread acclaim and notoriety in Australia and internationally. He has exhibited on nearly every continent including Asia, Europe, Africa and America.

In his practice, David has developed distinct themes and unique styles of painting; his best known are the nude female portraits and children’s series, but he often explores with various mediums and imagery that portray a certain whimsy. However diverse in his subject matter, David’s work is enduringly figurative, daringly coloured and executed with a graphic intention that is striking and memorable.
